In those days, Santo Domingo was a place of intense political intrigue and romance. A walk along Calle Las Damas, recalls an 16th-century world, populated by court ladies and soldiers, monks and nobles, pirates and slaves. Discover the first cathedral in America, the Alcazar de Colon, where his son reigned as Viceroy Diego Colón, the first courts, and to the place of the first tavern. Men like Hernan Cortes, Ponce de Leon and Rodrigo de Bastidas walked these streets, lived, loved and weft conquests. Started in sailboats from this port in search of adventure, gold and new lands to the Spanish crown. Drake held the city captive and, as a jealous lover, almost destroys Santo Domingo. Museums, restaurants, bars and galleries now inhabit the old city, but there are magical moments captured by the flashing light of an old lantern, a patio section and romantic, and an old anchor that captivates you with the promise of treasures galleons. The modern city offers excellent shopping, restaurants and a cosmopolitan nightlife with all the rhythm of the Caribbean. Avenue of the port, where the tourist cruise terminal welcomes a never-ending traffic. Discos, clubs and casinos light up the nights of Santo Domingo.
